The Lisa Coscino Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of its next exhibitions. The Main Gallery will feature work by Roberto Gil de Montes in an exhibition entitled, "Works Inspired by India". The Mid Gallery will host and exhibition of work by Ann Chamberlin entitled, "Small Stories". The exhibitions will open on Friday, May 20th and continue through June 25th. There will be an artist reception on Friday, 20 May from 6-8pm. The Gallery is located at 216 Grand Avenue in Pacific Grove.
Roberto Gil de Montes was born in Guadalajara, Mexico and has lived most of his life straddling the border between Mexico and California where he lives most of the time. Roberto received his MFA from Otis Parsons and immediately became engaged in the Los Angeles Latino Art Community in the late 1970's. He was one of the first artists to work at Self Help Graphics and has had an increasingly successful art career since then. Besides Mexico and the US, Roberto has spent much time traveling in India. This group of lush and lyrical figurative paintings is inspired by these travels. Roberto's work is in many corporate and private collections including that of George and Ann Lopez and the Smithsonian Museum of American Art.
Ann Chamberlin currently resides in Oregon but had been a resident of Los Angeles for many years where she has shown extensively. She earned her MFA from The University of Texas at Austin in 1986 and her BFA from La Universidad de las Americas in Cholula, Puebla, Mexico. In this body of work, Ann's small scale paintings tell the multilayered stories of the inhabitants, many times several stories are being told at once. There is a linear quality to her story telling and the paintings are painted in a naive, waif-like style. Most of the stories/paintings are about women and the roles we take on in the various stages of our lives.
In addition to these Gallery exhibitions, Lisa Coscino has curated an exhibition for Sierra Mar Restaurant at Post Ranch in Big Sur. Patricia Prescott: New Skyscapes will open on June 1st in Big Sur and continue through the month of August. Patricia Prescott's October exhibition in the Gallery sold out.
